The redesign was about taste, not performance
If the brief was 'it looks dated', the new site will look current and behave the same. Start instead with what the old site failed to do: which pages lost people, which questions went unanswered, which enquiries never arrived.
Search equity was thrown away
Changing URLs without redirects, deleting pages that ranked and losing internal linking are the fastest way to watch traffic fall the week after launch. Migration planning is not optional.
Content was left until the end
Design decided before the message means the copy gets squeezed into boxes. Write first, or at least write alongside, and the layout will fit the argument.
Launch was treated as the finish line
A website is not finished when it launches. It is finished when it starts doing its job. Measure, then improve the pages that underperform.
